25 Spring 2017 “ The poems can be compared to str
uctures in which the words, the elements in the structures are taken from the most ordinary of settings” Chow Chow Reading Anna Hallberg’s poems requires that you read very consciously with your eyes. These are fruits that take both graphic and linguistic form. The poems can be compared to structures in which the words, the elements in the structures are taken from the most ordinary of settings. Made up of family life, apartment dwelling, sexuality, young love – our lives and those of others. Through reading and viewing the poems, narratives gradually emerge. Not narratives in a conventional sense, but pictures of how we live, through the grouping of objects, ideas, thoughts, the violence, feelings and love that attach to them and filter out of thoughts about them, out of us, the things we cannot guard ourselves against. That’s life. Without it, well, what are we?
