49 Spring 2017 Bruno 3000 – The Club “ My name’s
Bruno and I’m eight years old. I’ve lived for about three thousand days. This is the second book about my life.” Bruno is eight and thinks a lot about Minecraft, judo and Lego. But most of all he thinks about what he can do to join the secret club that his classmates Yango and Lukas have started. They seem to have such a good time. Without Bruno. And it’s not fun when you don’t quite know how to find your place in the social game that’s school… Åsa Anderberg Strollo perfectly captures an eight-year-old’s everyday life and interests. In the series about Bruno her finely tuned text works together with Julia Thorell’s comic-like illustrations, and the combination quickly draws the reader into the story. There’s a drive and a humour in both text and image that’s very appealing. This is the second book about Bruno, and it functions as a standalone follow up to Bruno 3000 – The Twins. Bruno has the potential to become a lasting favourite with many readers.
