LFV Annual report 2018 1
L F V 2018 3. Time to go through security screeni
ng. 4. TWO HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE The pilots receive weather information for the route and relevant airports. The FPC provides information about the weather and any other factors that may affect the flight. This could include the operating hours of an airport, surfacing work or snow clearance, for example. Eva purchases a magazine and a cup of coffee. ONE HOUR BEFORE DEPARTURE The shift manager at LFV checks how much air traffic there is in each sector. Information about the flight is shown in the first sector that will handle it. Eva activates flight mode on her phone. Eva listens to the safety information. 7. THE AIRCRAFT WAITS BY THE GATE The pilot announces that they are ready to begin the flight. The controller verifies that they are within their time slot and gives clearance to start the engines and pushback from the gate. 8. THE AIRCRAFT TAXIES OUT FROM THE GATE TO THE RUNWAY The air traffic controller gives the pilot clearance to taxi towards the end of the runway and gives the aircraft a place in the queue. The control centre can see that the plane is on its way and starts to plan for take-off. The controller gives clearance to hold on the runway, waiting its turn behind other aircraft. When the separation is sufficient, clearance is given for take-off. LFV gives permission from the tower for take-off, and the flight may rise to 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) on a predetermined route. Eva fastens her safety belt and folds away her tray. 11. FIVE MINUTES TO LANDING Whilst approach control gives the pilot final directions for turning and descent, the tower controller prepares for landing. When the aircraft is cleared for approach to the relevant runway, it switches to the tower frequency. The tower controller carefully checks that no vehicles or other aircraft are on the runway. The pilot receives information about the current wind speed and direction along with the intensity of the approach/runway lights and landing clearance. After a pleasant trip, Eva looks forward to seeing her relatives. 12. THE AIRCRAFT LANDS IN LULEÅ. The controller, who constantly monitors the landing, waits until the pilot has sufficiently reduced speed before giving instructions to taxi in to the apron and the correct gate. 9
