rks and tourist destinations Smögenbryggan with its colourful boathouses is Bohuslän’s, and perhaps Sweden’s, most famous tourist destination by far. Tourists come here from near and far to watch the lively boat traffic, shop in the boutiques along the boardwalk and eat something nice in one of the restaurants. But there is much more here. Cliffs and hiking trails, coves and great experiences. Smögen is the place for sun worshippers, anglers, and divers. It may not be Bohuslän’s oldest fishing village, but the atmosphere and unique buildings have been well preserved. The small canal “Smyghålet” at the end of the harbour was mentioned as early as 1594 and is believed to be the basis for the name Smögen. The entertainment life on Smögen is something special. There are always several events taking place and the atmosphere in the restaurants is always at its best. If you want to stay a few nights on Smögen, you can choose anything from private rooms and cottages to hostels and high-class hotels. With a 10-minute boat ride from Smögen you reach the island of Hållö, which has become a very popular tourist destination. A unique nature reserve of granite where polished soft rocks alternate with giant’s kettles and other traces of the Ice Age. Hållö offers lovely bathing opportunities and Sweden’s saltiest water.
