Visitors come from near and far to watch the lively boat traffic, shop in the stores along the pier, and enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants. But there’s much more. Cliffs and hiking trails, bays for swimming, and wonderful experiences await. Smögen is perfect for sunbathers, sport fishers, divers, and pleasure seekers. Although it may not be Bohuslän’s oldest fishing village, the atmosphere and the unique architecture are well preserved. The small canal “Smyghålet” at the far end of the harbor was mentioned as early as 1594 and is believed to be the origin of the name Smögen. The entertainment scene in Smögen is something special. Events follow one another, and the atmosphere at the bars is always lively. If you want to stay a few nights in Smögen, there are everything from private rooms and cottages to hostels and high-end hotels. A 10-minute boat ride from Smögen is the island of Hållö, which has become a very popular destination. It is a unique nature reserve of granite where smooth, soft cliffs are interspersed with giant grooves and other traces from the Ice Age. On Hållö, there are great swimming spots and Sweden’s saltiest waters. You can also visit the Hållö lighthouse. Chapel and hostel are can also be found on the island.
