WONDERFUL ROCK CARVINGS In Sotenäs there are actu
ally even more rock carvings than in Tanum and Vitlycke. They are just a bit more ”hidden”. In two places, however, it is easy to see these cryptic messages from ancient times. At Munkhögen in Tossene, between Bovallstrand and Nordens Ark, is a rock with unique carvings. Here you can also find one of Bohuslän’s largest burial mounds, most likely from the middle of the Iron Age. At Åbyhällen near Nordens Ark, it is also easy to see rock carvings. You can get here without having to pay an entrance fee to the park. POPULAR FLEA MARKETS Great finds and other fun things can be found at flea markets and in Sotenäs there are of course several flea markets. In the summer they can pop up all over the place. Butik Springet in Kungshamn focuses on recycling and Nygatan in Kungshamn has a few flea markets/antique shops. Outside Hunnebostrand you can find Esters loppis and Svenneby Loppis&Kuriosa. HIKING ON TRAIL BOHUSKUSTEN Soteleden-Kuststigen offers really wonderful hiking experiences. This year, parts of it were launched as one of twelve signature trails in Sweden under the name “Signaturled Bohuskusten”, with five stages and a total length of 74 km. Along the trail there are several accommodations and fantastic experiences in varied terrain. Signaturled Bohuskusten runs between Villa Bro in Lysekil, via Nordens Ark (hotel), Anneröd, Bovallstrand, Hunnebostrand (hotel/ hostel) to Ramsvikslandet (cottages/camping). CULTURE AND HISTORY At the museum of stonemasonry in Hunnebostrand, you can see how granite was quarried in the past, when the stone industry was an important part of the construction of the new Sweden. It is managed by Sotenäsgillet, which is also responsible for other historically interesting buildings in Hunnebostrand. CURIOUS ABOUT THE VILLAGE The local community associations have a wealth of knowledge and stories from the past and usually organise traditional events. Gerlegården at Sandbogen in Kungshamn has both a small museum with objects and fishing history, as well as a beautiful merchant’s house from the 18th century. It is managed by the Kungshamns Hembygdsförening Phone +46 707- 6711567. Picture archives are located on Smögen behind the fisherman’s cottage on Kapsylgränd as well as on Ångbåtspiren in Kungshamn and on the middle quay in Hunnebostrand. It is usually possible to see old pictures at the various picture archives. Malmöns Hembygdsmuseum (local museum) ”Tancreds Hus” on Strandvägen displays objects from the stonemasonry era on the island. They also organise “stone walks” and guided cultural walks.
