easier it will be for the Swedish Migration Board
to assess the case. If there are any ambiguities in the self-sufficiency plan, or if documentation is missing, the Swedish Migration Board will make a request about it. The Swedish Migration Board examines whether the person’s current and future means of support is secured by means of their artistic work and whether this means of support can be considered to be secured based on the rules applicable to employees and a standardised minimum amount (in 2019, this amount was 13,000 SEK per month). There is no requirement that the income should cover the cost of living for accompanying family members. For further information about the possibility of applying for a permanent residence permit as a freelance artist, please see the Swedish Migration Board’s website, www.migrationsverket.se Staying in Sweden because of work, studies or family ties If an artist in residence has other reasons for staying, has found work that is not connected with the support provided by the City of Refuge, would like to study, or wants to stay in Sweden because a partner or family member has received a residence permit in the country, the artist should apply for a work permit or permission to stay on the grounds of family ties. For more information about the various possibilities for staying in Sweden through work, studies or family ties, please see the Swedish Migration Board’s website, www.migrationsverket.se Asylum There are no special rules that apply to artists in residence in Sweden through ICORN in the immigration laws, and there are no statements in propositions, assessments etc. that are directly aimed at individuals staying in Sweden under the special circumstances that apply to artists 34/49
