orks to protect threatened researchers and promote academic freedom all around the world. SAR does this by arranging temporary research and teaching positions in their network of institutions and by providing consultation and referral services. There are 17 affiliated universities in Sweden (2019). These can be useful contacts for artists in residence to have for, e.g., guest lectures, collegial contact etc. Website: www.scholarsatrisk.org Skap The Swedish Society of Songwriters, Composers and Authors works nationally and internationally for the rights of musicians. The Society offers Cities of Refuge musicians free membership, which includes free consultation regarding finances, contracts and legal matters, training, members’ evenings, competitive insurance and the opportunity to stay in the Society’s accommodation. Website: www.skap.se The Swedish Writers’ Union The Swedish Writers’ Union offers free membership to writers during their years in the City of Refuge. Membership allows them to receive help with relevant scholarships and residence in Sweden as well as abroad and share in members’ meetings and courses along with various other member benefits. The Swedish Writers’ Union has a guide that provides information about the organisation, what it is like to work as a writer in Sweden and the opportunities that are available. The guide is available in English, German, Spanish and Persian. Website: www.sverigesforfattarforbund.se Swedish PEN Artists in residence receive free membership in Swedish PEN during their residency period. Membership can be obtained by applying via their website or by sending an email to the office. When the directors have approved the selection, an official welcome letter is sent to the artist. Members receive regular updates about issues or cases that Swedish PEN is working with and invitations to member meetings in Stockholm 48/49
