One major challenge produced by increased film production is the increased pressure on the unique natural environments of the region. In order to preserve natural ecosystems and the communities that depend on them, a higher standard for sustainability in film productions needs to be established and disseminated. Green Ice Camera is a project between Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway to collectively create protocols for sustainable media production and a database of creative companies in the region, to promote creative collaboration online, and to make it easier to hire local crew members. Protocols will be developed in working groups established locally in each country. Workshops with both industry practitioners and sustainability experts will ensure that these protocols are both realistic and create impacts. Projects, following the protocols can obtain a certificate and receive an award at a Green Screen festival in Kirkenes in September 2021. Criteria will include carbon emissions, pollution, ecological disruption (damage to landscape, vegetation, and stress on wildlife), and community inclusion. Projektbeskrivning Insatsområde 1.
