ion faces great challenges, primarily with respect to improved capacity and lower environmental and climate impact. dations that are the basis of a number of activities that are expected to lead to change and implementation of new functions and amended regulations. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LFV's subsidiary LFV Aviation Consulting AB delivered flight measuring services to Norwegian and Danish airports in 2019, as well as some other consulting services in the international market. LFV has decided to phase out the product flight measurement. The market conditions have changed and there is an increased focus on national tasks, total defense issues and operations that are increasingly funded by government bonds. LFV will continue to monitor the international market, maintain a presence and develop collaborations in various ways. LFV participates in numerous international collaborations and also operates in the international market via the associated companies Entry Point North AB and Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions AB. A ROBUST INFRASTRUCTURE A diminished political security situation places demands on a strong total defense and intensive work is under way in order to build a robust infrastructure for both civil and military air traffic services. Monitoring and communications services have been modernised and the service life of necessary systems has been extended in order to ensure that an effective and operationally reliable service is provided. Constant oversight and general work to modernise LFV's monitoring infrastructure are also in progress. New radar system in Uppsala Installation of a new primary and secondary radar system was begun in Uppsala during the spring. The system complements the WAM system and Bällsta radar and replaces the existing radar station in Uppsala, which has been in operation since 1997. The structure and radar tower are being re-used. The project also includes strengthening of the WAM system (Wide Area Multilateration) in the Stockholm area. The background for the project was primarily that the infrastructure needs to be strengthened when tall buildings are built in the Stockholm area. In October 2019, LFV received approval for operation from the Swedish Transport Agency and commissioning of information from the new radar in Uppsala took place immediately thereafter. Double coverage from Askersund The secondary radar station in Askersund was replaced this year. After commissioning, this area now has double coverage of radar information, which was previously lacking. The replacement of Östersund secondary radar also began in 2019, with commissioning planned for the first half of 2020. In order to be able to better monitor military activity in the airspace over the Baltic Sea, a primary radar (PSR) system will be installed in southeast Småland. Unlike a secondary radar system (MSSR), it can discover all flights without transponders, which increases the possibilities of providing correct traffic information to civil flights in airspace over international waters.
