FTY AVIATION SAFETY GOALS Air traffic safety is LFV's most important priority. LFV's safety work is structured and all employees have a responsibility associated with roles, mandates and tasks. Aviation safety permeates the entire organisation on all levels and is a natural part of LFV's processes and working methods. LFV employs proactive initiatives with a focus on an organisational learning. LFV reaches the lofty aviation safety goals for 2019. LFV has not been involved with any aviation safety related event in which any person has been seriously injured or killed. Aviation safety is a natural part of LFV's daily operations and a long-term strategic element of its work. LFV's proactive initiatives focus on organisational learning: not only to learn from what went wrong, but also from situations and events that worked out well. Event reporting is followed up and contributes to continued learning. OUR AREAS OF FOCUS LFV works with a structured approach to the following focus areas: • taxi strip trespassing • loss of separation • drones • airspace trespassing • flight without transponders • faults in technical equipment The flight safety index provides an indication of the aviation safety situation. The index is based on risk classifications and a number of events of the type loss of separation and taxi strip trespassing in relation to the number of flight movements and expected repetition of the events. The goal is for LFV's flight safety index to remain below 3, which it has never done since the introduction four years ago. Preventative and informative activities related to taxi strip trespassing occur continuously. Occasionally, prohibited drone activity is reported to at higher altitudes than earlier. Drones are used as a tool in an increasing number of professional applications and the outlook indicates a substantial increase worldwide. The rapidly increasing places new demands on operations. LFV works actively with those issues and a UTM manager has been appointed this year to address and coordinate those issues. A total of 3151 (3462) reports from LFV employees were registered in 2019. Flight safety index, FSI, is used to monitor LFV's risk exposure. Loss of separation and taxi strip trespassing are assessed based on severity and how LFV influenced the events. The assessment is made with the help of a Risk Analysis Tool, RAT, that was developed by Eurocontrol. Data is compared with the number of flight movements that LFV controls to create a flight safety index. LFV's goal is that for an FSI of less than 3. The goal was met for 2019, which means LFV's aviation safety is very good. 34
