LFV Annual Report 2019 1
DIRE C T OR S ’ REPOR T L F V 2019 TWO HOURS BEFO
RE DEPARTURE ONE HOUR BEFORE DEPARTURE The pilots receive information about the weather on the flight path and at the relevant airports. In addition to weather information, FPC provides information about other factors that can influence the flight. This may include an airport's open hours, snow removal or maintenance work. LFV's shift leader checks how much air traffic there is in each sector. Information about the flight is visible in the first sector that will handle it. FIFTEEN MINUTES BEFORE DEPARTURE THIRTY MINUTES BEFORE DEPARTURE The pilot requests clearance to Luleå either via radio or data link. This clearance consists of destination, route, altitude, transponder code and a time of departure. LFV's air traffic controller has handled the earlier flight and the plane has landed and taxied to its parking location. The process to prepare the plane for its next departure begins immediately. Unloading, cleaning and refueling of the plane are carried out by airport personnel. THE PLANE DESCENDS TOWARDS LULEÅ THE PLANE LANDS While the inbound flight control provides the final instructions to turn and descend, the tower air traffic controller prepares for landing. When the plane has been cleared to land on the appropriate runway, control passes over to the tower frequency. The air traffic controller carefully checks to ensure that no vehicles or other planes are on the runway. The pilot receives information about the current wind speed and direction, as well as the intensity of the landing and runway lighting and is given permission to land. Air traffic controllers, who monitor the landing the entire time, wait until the pilot has substantially reduced speed and then give the pilot instructions to taxi to the correct gate. 9
