ANNONS Reality Modeling Is Going Mainstream in th
e Transportation Industry Rail transportation is essential to sustaining economic growth and improving quality of life. Owner-operators and their supply chains need to design, build, and operate rail networks around the world, and are adopting reality modeling to improve worker safety, project delivery, design iteration, and information sharing. ContextCapture, Bentley’s reality modeling software, automatically generates high-fidelity, 3D reality models from simple photographs and/or point clouds. These rich reality models can easily and consistently be shared, consumed, and accessed, on desktop and mobile devices, in many formats throughout the entire design and construction workflows. Reality modeling with Bentley applications provides real-world digital context of existing conditions, accelerating your design workflow. You can simulate construction and evaluate potential impact, understanding financial implications early and improving decision-making with optimized collaboration. It also helps you accelerate project delivery during construction because it provides an accurate perspective of your job site, allows you to monitor and evaluate progress, and enables verification of performance against your schedule. Finally, reality modeling helps improve your asset operation and maintenance through easier capture and documentation, linking registered equipment to operations and engineering data. Reality modeling is going mainstream, including on the High Speed 2 (HS2) project. HS2 is Britain’s first new intercity railway north of London in 100 years. The GBP 55.7 billion line will connect London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Leeds by 2033. The HS2 design, from track alignment to stations, needed to be true-to-scale and required that no further corrections occur during the construction phase. The major advantages of this innovative approach were initially offset by technological incompatibility, resulting in massive data conversion and multiple sources of truth. Working with Bentley, HS2 added continuous true-to-scale projection as a core component of Bentley solutions for the first time. This practice enables spatial scanning in ProjectWise, and minimizes mass data conversion and conversion errors, among other benefits. The vastly more efficient data management supports rail design best practices. www.bentley.com 50 • Framtidens Järnväg / NORDISK INFRASTRUKTUR NR 3 2021
